Janus Charity Challenge at Ironman USA Lake Placid 2009

In the investment world, performance is often gauged by averages. Ironically, Janus is anything but average. As a global investment management firm, we push ourselves to work harder, dig deeper and think smarter so that our investors can go farther. Janus is proud to support athletes who, like us, won’t settle for average. Through our sponsorship of Ironman – one of the most distinguished and respected endurance races in the world – and our creation of the Janus Charity Challenge – a unique fundraising program – we offer competitors yet another way to rise above the norm.

We look forward to supporting our Charity Challenge athletes in Lake Placid, two-time host city of the Winter Olympic Games and the oldest official Ironman race in the Continental U.S. Lake Placid is known by many athletes as the city where miracles are made. Most notable was the “Miracle on Ice,” the 1980 USA-USSR Olympic hockey game when a group of American college students and amateurs upset the heavily-favored Soviet national ice hockey team and took home the gold medal. While Ironman athletes may not be going for the gold, they’ll have plenty to celebrate when they break the tape at Lake Placid.

Course Highlights:
Swim in pristine Mirror Lake; challenging hills on the bike and run; fewest turns of any Ironman race; finish in the famous Olympic Speed Skating Oval

Overall Course Record:
Men 2004– Simon Lessing, Great Britain - 8:23:12
Women 2004 – Kate Major, Australia – 9:24:42
