About Janus
Join me in my efforts to support my charity!
Bretton Woods Adaptive (BWA) Sports Program is a year-round program offering recreational opportunities to people of all ages regardless of disability. My Dad, who is a polio survivor with no use of his legs, began skiing (among other outdoor activities) only a decade ago. For most of his life he did not realize that there were opportunities like this available to him. He has thrown himself into ensuring that others do not have to wait as long as he did to enjoy the thrill of the outdoors!
One of the people BWA helped was Erin Brady Worsham who has had Lou Gehrig’s disease (ALS) for 14 years. She has no usable muscles in her whole body except her eyes and forehead. All else is paralyzed including her diaphragm which is why she must be on a ventilator. She is tube fed and must be aspirated frequently as she cannot swallow so would drown in her own saliva. Using a sensor taped to her forehead which is linked to a communication device attached to her computer, she produced the painting to the left of my Dad. It took her approximately 400 hours. Thanks to BWA she was able to experience her dream and the joy of skiing using a highly modified sit down ski at Bretton Woods.
Some of you know that I'll be competing in Ironman Lake Placid this July. I'm using the event to raise money for BWA through the Janus Charity Challenge. All money raised through this ski-a-thon will be leveraged through the Janus Charity Challenge effort.! If I am one of the top fundraisers for the race in July, Janus will award BWA with an additional $5K - $10K!
Here is how the Reverend Doctor H. Cris Criswell described what the organization can do for those it helps:
"Whether by birth, by disease, by accident or by war, whether you ski or whether you ride one board or two, two legs or one, sit-down, stand-up, with or without sight it is our magic carpet ride, --we all glide over sparkling frozen crystals for the same reason, to be transported into another world, a Place where the crippled dance, the lame walk and the blind see, where we may all, each and everyone, not one left behind, all together, mount up with wings like eagles and join the Dance which has no end"
Thanks in advance for your support either by donating to the charity or even just spreading the word about the cause! More information is available at
